Pesticides

Pesticides are used to kill insects, weeds, fungi and rodents. Most pesticides are not highly selective, meaning they kill a lot of other living things such as us. However, the more common health risks to humans is deterioration of mental health, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer.
Pesticides are neurotoxic, in fact that is how many pesticides kill their target; through death of the nervous system and disruption of critical processes that depend on it such as the respiratory system. Since my position is that it is the chemical toxicity in our environment, food and medicine that is causing the epidemic mental health conditions people seek out psychiatric drugs to fix today (the definition of crazy, using the problem as a solution; ergo, using a toxin to heal a condition caused by toxicity), I will first explain neurotoxicity which is the biochemical mechanism by which the damage to the body and brain (reported in degrading mental health) happens.

Definition of Neurotoxic: Damages the nervous system and disrupts brain chemistry. Neurotoxicity causes an adverse change in the chemistry, structure or function of the nervous system during development or at maturity, following exposure to a chemical or physical agent.
Since most pesticides are excitotoxins; they cause excessive, continual firing of neurons (causing hyper-excitability and inability to focus). They also cause dehydration of and accelerated death to nerve and brain cells which results in an overload of information to be processed by the remaining functional nervous system resulting in over-excitability (resulting in feelings and emotions of being overwhelmed) added to the hyper stimulation caused by the neurotoxic process.
Pesticides are getting stronger every year – Since DDT was applied to crops, increasingly potent insecticides (a class of pesticides) have been developed to overcome the resistance developed by insects to successive products. Despite legislation to control the use of these health destroying and deadly products, they repeatedly appear in the adipose tissue, milk and serum of human populations.
So now we have an abundance of very potent pesticides in the environment that only get stronger every year. An example of a very toxic pesticide’s actions on the bio/neurochemistry of insects (and humans) that results in nervous system exhaustion and then death is Imidacloprid. Imidacloprid kills its intended target by hyper stimulation of acetylcholine (neuronal communication conductors) activity through inhibiting the enzyme that breaks it down and introducing a chemical that mimics it to cause a significant and deadly rise in acetylcholine. While the acetylcholine downgrading enzyme is deactivated, rises in acetylcholine causes the sodium channels to open and this causes the neuron to fire- continuously, which ultimately causes cellular death which will culminate into tissue death and of course dysfunction of the brain’s communication systems- real, identifiable and verifiable neurochemical dysfunction. Respiratory failure due to exhaustion, disruption and death of the nervous system results in death of the insect. This is why so many children and adults with asthma suffer attacks due to certain pesticide exposures. It is through their impact on the nervous system and its control of the respiratory system. This classification of pesticides also causes muscle weakness, loss of cerebral function, damages dopamine receptors, and exhausts the parasympathetic nervous system responsible for balancing out the sympathetic nervous system causing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, irritability and nervousness.
Many pesticides today are made of the exact same chemicals we used in biowarfare (sprays) to subdue the enemy through attacking their nervous system.
Since movies do a much better job at conveying information, please view this short presentation on how the chloronicotinyl pesticide Imidacloprid acts on the nervous system. http://www.physioviva.com/movies/neurotoxic_insecticides/index.html
This mechanism of action ;that is how pesticides kill bugs through the CNS (central nervous system), should not be taken lightly as it results in actual tissue death of all organs of the body and those organs associated with the neuroendocrine system will produce the mental loss-of-health symptoms people seek psychiatric drugs to reduce. Let me make one thing very, very clear: silencing your symptoms is deadly! For one, it forgives (on the surface anyway) the irresponsible lifestyle habits in diet, exercise and environmental hygiene (people, places and products) that brought them to their symptoms and two, it allows for not only the original problem to continue to manifest into a life threatening condition (such as if a sensitivity to pesticides is the cause – or pesticide overload and you continue that diet, you are putting yourself at a very high risk for health complications and disease) but you are also suffering from the toxicity and oxidative stress the drug causes to the system. So you are just adding to the original problem, not helping it in any way! Drugging a symptomatic person is extremely dangerous because their symptoms demonstrate that they are in ill health to begin with. Add the toxic nature of drugs and you are only creating an even worse environment for their condition and decreasing the likelihood that they will ever get well. And I don’t know about you, but I really like the fact that my body produces symptoms when something in my environment or diet isn’t right. Symptoms give you a chance! You should much rather have a survival system that offers up symptoms than walking around clueless about your health until one day you fall over dead. The process of maintaining health goes like this: when something is wrong symptoms develop, so you listen to your symptoms as opposed to trying to silence them and you make some necessary changes based on scientific evidence or even common sense of what is causing them. When the symptoms go away naturally you know you are doing the right thing and, bingo, you continue doing that and you are healed. It’s not magic; it’s the performance of a three million year relationship that the cells have forged with nature- the wisdom of our cells are programmed for survival. All you have to do is give your body the right environment and it will heal – health and abundance is programmed into your cells! Health is on your side but it is a team sport! You have to give your cells the environment that they best function in and you can’t manipulate, or in any way get around that fact!
Bottom line; do not trust the FDA with your health. Pesticides are developed to kill other living creatures that have very similar and many times identical critical organ processes. This means that these products will affect you the same way, however, on a lighter scale because you weigh more. However, when you consider that the average person will test positive for over 400 man made chemicals in their body at any given time you have to add the amount of exposure while also considering the toxic byproducts produced by multiple chemicals coming in contact with each other. That’s right, there are cross contamination considerations here. All these chemicals being tested are being tested in sterilized, controlled, laboratory environments so the test results do not bear witness whatsoever to what is going to happen when they are unleashed into the environment and your body. And believe me, the controls and conditions are set up for the chemical to win, not your health!
A good place to start a fundamental education in pesticides that will impassion you to go further in educating yourself as to how pesticides are diminishing your quality including your mental health is Silent Spring by Rachel Carson. Her book was the catalyst that had DDT banned. “In response to the publication of Silent Spring and the uproar that ensued, U.S. President John F. Kennedy directed his Science Advisory Committee to investigate Carson’s claims. Their investigation “vindicated” Carson’s work, and led to an immediate strengthening of the regulation of chemical pesticides”.
That was back in the good old days when the health and well being of the citizens of our nation was still slightly more important than chemical company profits. Today, the scales are tipped so far in the opposite direction that these products cause hundreds and thousands of deaths each year while contributing to the destruction of our planet and few are blinking an eye! Much less are people looking in the direction of pesticides to resolve their mental health issues yet in many, they are a leading contributor to their symptoms!
Another eye opening book that is a must read for women / men thinking about having children is,
Body Burden — The Pollution in Newborns (Al Gore wrote the foreword).
Right now, go to http://www.ewg.org/reports/bodyburden2/execsumm.php and read about this startling study of the umbilical chords of newborns. I’ve included an excerpt below. Also, please consider donating to the continuance of this research as this is the kind of data we need to push back on not only the chemicals used in our food and environment but those used by psychiatry in the guise of medicine.
“In a study spearheaded by the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in collaboration with Commonweal, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 200 industrial chemicals and pollutants in umbilical cord blood from 10 babies born in August and September of 2004 in U.S. hospitals. Tests revealed a total of 287 chemicals in the group. The umbilical cord blood of these 10 children, collected by Red Cross after the cord was cut, harbored pesticides, consumer product ingredients, and wastes from burning coal, gasoline, and garbage.
This study represents the first reported cord blood tests for 261 of the targeted chemicals and the first reported detections in cord blood for 209 compounds. Among them are eight perfluorochemicals used as stain and oil repellants in fast food packaging, clothes and textiles — including the Teflon chemical PFOA, recently characterized as a likely human carcinogen by the EPA’s Science Advisory Board — dozens of widely used brominated flame retardants and their toxic by-products; and numerous pesticides.
